Day 3

Day three was the most challenging so far as all the treats from last night kept us up until the sun came up but we demonstrated that although we party hard, we are big boys in the morning too. Energisers were an important part of day three as playing Princess, Catch and Mayo's claps gave us the extra boost of energy much needed to keep us focused on the activities we had planned for the day.

For the first activity, called Islands, we were split up in groups and each group had to visit the eight islands of competences. On each island we had some tasks to resolve focused on the eight key competences promoted by Youthpass. It tested our teamwork capabilities, our communication skills, focused us to exchange information about the cultures of our countries. It was a good opportunity to find similarities and also differences between our languages. It also tested out logic and out computer skills.
what we need to improve, but it also made us more aware on what the competences mean in practice.

This was an opportunity for us to find our strong points and see. During the break we went for a walk around the lake. We climbed the tower and enjoyed the the amazing view. We played in the wooden playground and we had fun time on the traditional wooden swing. Our way back was also amusing because we had to pass a small river. Facilitators talked to us about a watch tower from where you can have a really beautiful view of the lakes. After about half an hour of walking in the forest close to the lake we did it. The stairs was tiring but the view totally worth it as you may see. When we got down we were in front of a playground so we took the chance and had a very good time there. We were so happy that we had to run to be back in time for the evening activities. After lunch it was a real pleasure to take part of the World Cafe. The waitresses, as known as our trainers, took our orders and afterwards the hardworking part began.

There were four tables with different topics, every fifteen minutes we had to change our tables and take part in the discussion of each topic. In doing so we were to broaden our horizons and deepen our knowledge about almost everything that fascinates young people. This activity was very eye-opening and interesting because it made us aware of things that will always come in handy. Topics like leadership and youth participation should always be discussed and inspired within young people and we believe that through the World Cafe we became more experienced than we would have otherwise.

We finished our working day with a little role-play to help us better understand cultural differences. The objective of a game was to learn habits of three made up tribes and then demonstrate them in front of other tribes. As we found out, our tribes had completely different ways of life. For example one tribe “Turtelinas” were very emotional and caring people. On the other hand the “Coldanians” tribe were known for their lack of empathy and compassion. Because of these differences, people from different tribes weren’t able to relate and were usually rejected. This exercise showed us how basic cultural differences influence our perception of foreigners and can lead to rejection of individual living in a foreign community.
